it has been hinted at by certain people that i may be overly negative about certain things at certain times. in retaliation, i offer a list of things i like. i invite you to like them too, but please don't feel any obligation.
:: actors who do one character (over and over again) really well: thomas hayden church, vince vaughn, john cusack, joan cusack, michael cera, juliette binoche. et cetera.
:: the word, "satchel"
:: noam chomsky
:: actual autumn, as opposed to the pasadena poor man's fall. which i'm not complaining about. it's just as lovely as spring, summer and winter. which is why no one can tell the difference.*
:: nursing my babies (this one's just for me. get your own babies. and if you think this may be TMI, remember that no one is forcing you to read further, and consider this your final warning). a blast of endorphins hits you immediately. no drug--that i have ever taken--works this fast. ladies, did you know about this? i confused it for a long time with a caffeine rush, but then i'd remember i hadn't had any caffeine lately--and i knew something else {magical} was making me want to both laugh and punch someone out, but in a good-natured, "let's do yoga sometime when this is all over," sort of way. if you haven't had this experience, don't feel bad at all. the first few weeks are not cool. imagine two of your sensitive "areas" wrassling with the business end of a cheese grater. imagine a sudden and emotional need for water. imagine deformity. but it does turn out to be worth it...so much.
* don't confuse this with a complaint because i could do sooooo much better. i love pasadena. pasadena is the paris of suburban los angeles.
i need to go now. i am considering starting a workout of some kind at some point. i have to train my legs to accept speed.

Most women I talk to love nursing, I hope I am able to feel this "love" with this next one!
And may I add Meg Ryan to your list. She doesn't do well outside of her box, but she is perfect in her usual Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail kind of rolls. And if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend IQ. One of my faves.
Oh, and the exercise thing. If you don't mind videos, I have a really great set that starts you out slow and then builds you up to the good stuff. Slim in Six is what they are called, and I love them! No bouncing around or getting in weird positions you would be embarrassed to be in if someone walked in to the room, just pure adrenaline fun.
I am one of the ones that didn't (like nursing) at all. I cried when the baby cried to be fed after I was pressured in to it with the first two. The last two went from womb to bottle and I think we were all happier. I hope they don't grow up to be axe murderers or something!!
Exercise? What's that??
Oh wait, this was supposed be about likes, not dislikes.
I like to listen to the wind blowing in the trees at night.
I like rocking with small children in my lap.
I like blogging at work when I'm supposed to be working.
that's funny. i don't ever find you negative. honest, yes. negative, no. perhaps it's because certain someone's consider me negative that i can't see it in others.
my mother was an endorphin feeler too. why didn't i get that? i can't imagine it being better than a diet coke. so i'm assuming that i have never felt that. even after 2 kids. i'm glad that you did...so much the better for your kiddeo's too.
and megara - poor meg ryan. she had it, until she messed with her smile to the point that it now looks like the joker. i think.
to add to your list:
luke AND owen wilson. wow, i heart those brothers.
helena bonham carter, she just does crazy so well.
that's all for now.
i get that same feeling when i nurse your baby. oh, wait.
Jeez Louise! If you're negative then that must mean I'm satan's sister. Oh wait, I am.
I loved nursing after the first few weeks. Sooooooo convenient. Can't remember the rush though. But I'm going to try to remember because I need all the rushes I can get.
I, like Shawnie, liked nursing for the convenience. (Someone told us once that she and I were sisters, and I am really starting to believe it!) I just loved those quiet times holding that little one in my arms. It was one of the few times in a day when they'd be still enough for a good cuddle. But I don't remember the rush either. I DO remember the early pain (that would be PAIN!) :(
What I like:
walking out into a really hot day after spending hours inside a SUPER air-conditioned school
Fridays. TG.
automatic car washes where you just sit in your car and eat a peach while the brushes do the job
Zooey Deschanel
50's songs
