one thing i don't like, one thing i do

i don't like grocery bags. plastic or paper. but especially not plastic, which is derived as we all know from a nonrenewable resource. it's easy now to get those handy reusable bags and it doesn't take very long to get in the habit. even I can remember--most of the time. keith olbermann should feature grocery baggers who double bag milk jugs on his "worst person in the world" segment. well, not really, because they're nice people just doing their jobs, but i do think it would be fun to see someone get red in the face about it (besides me and the crazy bus people). i've said this before, haven't i? milk jugs come with their own handle. that's right! THEY HAVE A HANDLE! go ahead and comment if you think i'm being a freak about this. i don't mind.

and now, for today's thing i do like. it's a film. this one. by filmmaker douglas hunter, whom i met today for the first time, though i have known and admired his wife for some months. the audience seemed largely comprised of episcopalians (makes sense given the topic and the fact that they hosted the screening at their church) and the mood was very positive. i'm way too sleepy to wax eloquent, so let me just say this: when it gets distributed more widely, i will encourage anyone who can see it to do so. it was an uplifting, hopeful, moving way to start my sabbath morning and i expect its effects to follow me for some days.
it makes me happy when people work hard to do good.

I specifically ask the baggers NOT to bag my milk because, um, duh. right?
I'm with you. Handles people.

I do have to wonder why they want to put the milk in bags. Are they afraid it is too cold for us to touch? And, thank you again for coming out to see Douglas' film. And for the shout out.

Thanks for coming to the screening! It was great to meet you in person after following your blog and hearing all the positive things that Michele says about you. It was also wonderful to have a few Mormons in the audience. That support is meaningful.

When RD comes to town we all need to get together!

Hear! hear! on the get together idea. I'd love to meet the Hunters over good food and good discussion.

Do it.

"As a Mormon, I have a responsibility and commitment to listen to my church leaders," he said. "At the same time, listening to my church leaders does not absolve me of the ethical responsibility to listen to the voice of the other."

Brings tears to my eyes! Where can I see the documentary?
